            MADISON COUNTY, FLORIDA

                                           MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING

 

                                              WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2007

 

                                                                      8:30 A.M.

           

           

The Board of County Commissioners of Madison County, Florida met this day in Special Session with the following members present: Ricky Henderson (District 1), Wayne Vickers (District 2), Ronnie L. Moore (District 3), Alfred Martin (District 4), and Roy Ellis (District 5).  Also, present were County Coordinator Allen Cherry, County Planner Jeanne Bass, Board Administrative Office Manager Sherilyn Pickels, and Deputy Clerk Phyllis Lawson.

 

The Chairman, Honorable Roy Ellis, called the meeting to order and stated the purpose of the meeting was to hold two Public Hearings for receiving public input on Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP) grant applications for Cherry Lake Beach and R.W. Washington Neighborhood Park.

 

The meeting was turned over to Parks and Recreation Director Tommy Garner.  He explained that the first grant applied for would be used to make improvements at Cherry Lake Beach.  These improvements would include a fishing pier, children’s playground area, concession building, security lighting, and related activities.  The meeting was opened for public comment.  Hearing none, the hearing was closed to the public and turned back over to the Board.  The Board by consensus agreed to allow Mr. Garner to apply for this grant.

 

Mr. Garner then explained that the second grant would be used to construct the R.W. Washington Neighborhood Park.  Land was donated by the Morningstar Baptist Church for this purpose.  The proposed new park would include a basketball court, covered pavilion with picnic tables, volleyball area, children’s play area, fencing and related activities.  The meeting was opened for public comment.  Hearing none, the hearing was closed to the public and turned over to the Board.  The Board by consensus agreed to allow Mr. Garner to apply for this grant.

 

There being no further business, the Chairman adjourned the meeting at 8:50 A.M.
