BOCC Special Minutes May 23, 2011

                                        BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

            MADISON COUNTY, FLORIDA

                                                        COURTHOUSE ANNEX

                                         MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING

                                                       MONDAY, MAY 23, 2011

                                                                      5:00 P.M.

The Board of County Commissioners of Madison County, Florida met this day in Special Session with the following members present: Justin Hamrick (District 1), Wayne Vickers (District 2), and Renetta Parrish (District 3). Also present was Deputy Clerk Phyllis Lawson.

The Chair, Honorable Renetta Parrish, called the meeting to order and called the roll.

Chairperson Renetta Parrish stated the purpose of the meeting was to consider the approval of a request by the Cherry Lake Volunteer Fire Department to use the Cherry Lake Beach facilities for a fundraiser. She then opened the floor for public comment.

County Coordinator Allen Cherry arrived at the meeting at 5:03 p.m. Commissioner Alfred Martin (District 4) arrived at the meeting at 5:05 p.m. Commissioner Roy Ellis (District 5) arrived at the meeting at 5:06 p.m.

Mr. Scott Singletary, Fire Chief of the Cherry Lake Volunteer Fire Department, stated that a request had been made at the last Regular Meeting on behalf of the Fire Department for use of the Cherry Lake Beach facilities for a fundraiser but the matter was not addressed at that time. Discussion followed and it was agreed by consensus that the current County Ordinance needed to be reviewed.

A motion was made by Commissioner Vickers and seconded by Commissioner Martin that the request to allow the fundraiser at Cherry Lake Beach be approved. The motion carried 5-0.

Mr. Singletary asked what the procedure should be for future requests. The Board agreed by consensus that until the existing Ordinance is reviewed and possibly changed, requests for use of the Cherry Lake Beach facilities should be brought before the Board.

There being no further business, the Chair adjourned the meeting at 5:21 P.M.
