The Recreation Department is housed at the Madison County Recreation Complex.  The Complex is located at 753 SW Anastasia Way, just off of Highway 90 next to the Madison County High School.

Normal Hours of Operation:  Monday - Friday, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

The Four Freedoms Trail in Madison County was constructed as a joint effort between the County, Suwannee River Water Management District, the Office of Greenways and Trails, and the Florida Department of Transportation.  As a result, the Trail was created without using any of Madison County's ad valorem tax dollars.  The 12 mile recreational trail extends north from the city limits of Madison to the Withlacoochee River at the Florida-Georgia border.  People can enjoy walking, biking and horseback riding along the paved trail, which provides covered rest areas along the way. 

Madison County is home to six beautiful parks throughout the county.  There are also City Parks in the City of Madison, Town of Lee, and Town of Greenville.  Currently Madison County has one State Park called Blue Springs.

Underwater Florida

Madison currently has two different canoe trails that are located within the County.  Both have been recognized by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Office of Greenways and Trails.  Please click on the links below for more information on the canoe trails, including maps and directions.

Withlacoochee River (North) Canoe Trail

The 20-acre Ladell Brothers Outdoor Environmental Center is located on the campus of North Florida Community College in Madison, Florida.  It has recently been named as a site for the Great Florida Birding Trail.  Three loop trails, collectively over one and one-half miles in length, begin and end at the picnic area.  The picnic area includes three picnic stations, each equipped with a barbecue grill, table and trash can.  There is also a large rain shelter, bench seats for groups of up to 70 and directional signs. Low areas, streams and the lake are bridged with boardwalks and platforms.  Habitats, animals and plants may be observed by walking the loop trail system at the Center.  The Ladell Brothers Outdoor Environmental Center is home to a black gum-red maple swamp, marsh area, a 4-acre pond, spring fed stream, deciduous woods, pine woods, campus grasslands, and a planted field.  Please click on the links below for directions and further information.
